Lake Home Brings the Outdoors In

Overlooking an iconic lake in the heart of Minneapolis, this modern artisan residence takes full advantage of its site. With a small footprint yet open design, stunning views are present in every room—making the windows a huge focal point of the home.

The design goal was to take full advantage of the views of Lake Bde Maka Ska—part of a chain of lakes that define the city. The strikingly beautiful, contemporary abode from John Kraemer & Sons provides a unique combination of privacy from the neighbors—along with grand lake views—thanks to its large walls of durable, custom-colored windows and doors from the Marvin Elevate Collection, strategically placed to limit views from the outside.

The home’s clean, organically modern aesthetic presents beautifully through every inch of the 2,800-square-foot, three-bedroom, three-bath home. The contemporary appeal begins with the exterior—a combination of natural stone, Cor-Ten steel, wood and expansive windows—all in perfect alignment.

The look and feel of the home continues in the main-floor living room, a space designed to accommodate quiet family times, raucous holiday parties or a dinner party for eight equally well. The living room is flooded with natural light from large Elevate Casement windows and an Elevate Inswing French Door with transom windows above, offering uninterrupted views of the lake.

The gourmet kitchen makes preparing a quick breakfast or feast for a crowd a breeze, with Miele appliances, an Eramosa Limestone island, custom hardware and unique storage. Delightful details also work to bring the outdoors inside—including horizontal grain walnut cabinets, polished concrete floors underfoot and the addition of several Elevate Awnings above the cabinets to continue flooding light throughout the first floor.

On the second floor, an interior wall features strategically placed casement windows to bring light into the upstairs hallway and staircase.

The master suite offers a massive walk-in closet featuring a window with specialty glass to obscure exterior views from below. Half of the walls in the master suite are lined with Elevate Sliding Patio Doors, leading to a private deck for endless views of the lake beyond.

A myriad of windows are placed throughout the remainder of the second floor, including in the refreshing master spa-bath, guest bathroom and the two additional bedrooms.

Combining beauty with efficiency and durability, this breathtaking home was built to last. The durable, pultruded fiberglass windows and doors throughout are built to outlast and outperform the harsh Minnesota winters—keeping the homeowners warm and cozy throughout the season.
